The research group of intelligent monitoring and optimal control

The research group of ‘intelligent monitoring and optimal control’ in School of Computer and Information Engineering at Beijing Technology and Business University is an academic innovation team of the Beijing city. The group has been working on modeling, simulation, optimization and decision-making of the complex system for years, and gained a series of theoretical and practical achievements in various aspects, such as monitoring of complex water environment, early warning and decision-making on algal bloom, as well as management and control technology for municipal sewage treatment. In recent years, this group has undertaken many different projects at national and provincial level, including ‘Research on mechanism modeling and prediction method of algal bloom formation in lakes and reservoirs’ supported by the natural science foundation of China, ‘research on water environment modeling, algal bloom prediction and decision-making method for emergency treatment’ funded by the natural science foundation of the Beijing city, ‘research on mechanism modeling, prediction and early warning on algal bloom in lakes and reservoirs in Beijing’ as the project of ‘New Star in Science and Technology Fields’ in Beijing, ‘the IOT-based application platform for water environment monitoring and intelligent management of rivers and lakes in Beijing’ as the project of the creative ability promotion plan for municipal universities and colleges in Beijing. In addition, the research group also hosted several tasks delegated by government or public institutions, such as the project ‘experiment on multiple indoor and outdoor factors and development of the warning model’ funded by Beijing Water Authority, which has been listed as one of the guarantee projects for the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games; and ‘Detection and remote transmission system for water quality parameters in Lake Tai’ from Taihu Basin Authority. Partial achievements of these projects have been successfully applied in water environment monitoring, analysis and information management of different areas like Beihai Lake, Yuyuantan Lake, Lake Tai, the ring river in Tangshan, Shenzhen River, etc. Until now, the research team has developed a series of devices for water environment monitoring and analysis, including the off-shore water quality monitoring cabinet, portable water quality monitoring and analysis device, and float-type water environment monitoring device, which provide a hardware platform for automatic collection and analysis of the water environment information. The group has published over 100 academic papers on domestic and overseas high-ranking journals and academic conferences, such as Nonlinear Dynamics, Ecological Modelling, Sensors, Chinese Journal of Electronics, Journal of Chemical Industry and Engineering and Acta Scientiae Circumstantiae. Moreover, the group has applied and been authorized 20 national invention patents and 4 utility model patents, published 2 academic books, and been authorized over 20 software copyright.
