General structure

The Foreign Language School of Beijing Technology and Business University consists of five sub-divisions, namely, English Department (including Graduate Administration), Public Foreign Languages Teaching Department One, Public Foreign Languages Teaching Department Two (including English, Japanese, and Spanish Teaching), Foreign Teachers Administration Department and Language Lab Department. The English Department (including graduate administration) is mainly responsible for educating and teaching both undergraduate English majors and graduate English majors. Public Foreign Languages Teaching Department One and Public Foreign Languages Teaching Department Two mainly take responsibilities for the teaching of English language and second foreign languages (Spanish, Japanese) to the whole number of undergraduates of all other schools other than Foreign Language School of our university. All the five departments have been working collaboratively so as to achieve the goal of common progress and common development as a whole.

 

Overview

The Foreign Language School of Beijing Technology and Business University has undergone more than six decades of exploration, reformation, and construction and has developed into an institution with comprehensive specialties and disciplines. The enrollment of four-year English major undergraduates in our school can be traced back to 1988, making our university one of the first of Beijing municipal universities to recruit English majors. Basically, we focus on developing students’ skills in English speaking, listening, reading, writing and translation.

 

Ultimately, we lay emphasis on nurturing students to uplift their cultural values and to broaden their visions of the world by providing them chances to expose to different cultures and backgrounds during their study in college. Consequently, our students enjoy a high employment rate after graduation from college, most of them working with established organizations and companies in such fields as diplomacy, world trade, justice, telecommunications, tourism, education, etc. According to statistics, the employment rate is 97% for 7 consecutive years from 2004 to 2010. Some of our graduated students are pursuing further study in other countries and regions, like USA, UK, Canada, and Hongkong or working and living abroad.

 

Faculty profile

The Foreign Language School of Beijing Technology and Business University has a total number of seventy seven faculty members, sixty three of them being professional teachers, two of them being professors, twenty of them being associate professors. As far as academic degree is concerned, four of them are doctors, forty three of them are masters and one of them is would-be (in-study) doctor. All our teachers and staff workers are highly evaluated for their strong sense of responsibility, their high ability and industrious efforts in doing scientific research work and a number of our professors and associate professors are famous specialists in their specific fields.

 

Level-division teaching

In order to meet the capital area’s ever increasing needs of social and economic development and improve our university’s undergraduates training model, the Foreign Language School of Beijing Technology and Business University has been carrying out university-wide level-division in College English teaching ever since the fall semester of 2011. Our students are classified and taught in accordance with their unique background knowledge and learning aptitude. This methodology has been found to be fully conducive in motivating and inspiring students in their English study. We have been continuously summing up experiences in this differentiating instructions and adjusting teaching approaches so as to maximize each student’s learning and bring their characteristics and superiority into fuller play.

 

Graduate education / training

In order to satisfy the demand for faster improvement and higher level development, the Foreign Language School of Beijing Technology and Business University has for years strived to adjust the directions of specialties and encouraged to develop new disciplines. Our school has developed two specialties authorized to confer master's degree, with a number of master supervisors working on it. On the basis of traditional enrollment of four-year undergraduates, our school has enrolled a number of graduates majoring in translation or international law-business English, and some of them have graduated and received their master’s degree.

After 60 years of striving, The Foreign Language School of Beijing Technology and Business University has achieved remarkable progress and development in every aspect. In order to suit the needs of our country's socialist economic construction and cultural development, and to seek further development, our school is deepening its reforms, implementing the policy of training students morally, mentally, and physically, absorbing advanced experience, revising its training program, adjusting the directions of the specialties, supporting and encouraging the development of new disciplines, so as to satisfy the society's demand for high-level talents.
