About Us

OVERIVEW

The School of Economics (SOE) is one of the largest among 10 schools within Beijing Technology and Business University (BTBU) in terms of enrollment and faculty team. Its history can trace back to 1960 as the Department of Commercial Economy of Beijing Business College. In 1999 BTBU took its current form when Beijing Business College and Beijing Institute of Light Industry merged into one and at that time SOE was founded. 

After 57 years of development, SOE becomes a fully fledged school. Currently, SOE is composed of 5 departments, including Department of Economics, Department of Trade, Department of Finance (Insurance), Department of Public Finance and Department of Statistics. In total, there are 8 undergraduate majors and 8 Teaching and Research Offices, namely, Economics, Trade Economy, International Economics and Trade, Finance, Insurance, Finance Engineering, Public Finance and Economic Statistics, 12 academic master’s degree majors, namely, Political Economics, Regional Economics, International TradeQuantitative Economics, Statistics, National Economics, Labor Economics, Public Finance, Specialized History, Finance, Insurance, Western Economics and Industrial Economics, and 6 profession-oriented master's degree majors, namely, International Business, Asset Evaluation, Insurance, Taxation, Applied Statistics and Finance. The SOE has 9 research institutes, including the Research Base of Capital Circulation Industry, Business Environment Research Center, Regional Finance Engineering Applied Research Center, Economy Institute, Cooperative Economy Research Center, Securities and Futures Institute, Insurance Research Center, Commercial Institute and Research Center of Pakistan Technology and Economy.
 
FACULTY
SOE currently has 119 full-time faculty members, of whom 25 are professors and 45 are associate professors. In recent years, a number of outstanding PhD graduates from prestigious universities abroad have further strengthened our research and teaching. The SOE also has a large number of part-time faculties, including foreign and in-house scholars, and professional experts.
 
ACADEMIC COOPERATION
SOE and many of its faculty members have established close cooperative relationships with universities, institutes and scholars in countries such as the US, Britain, Ireland, and Japan, as well as regions including Hong Kong. Each semester SOE hosts dozens of guest lectures made by scholars from all over the world and students are encouraged to take advantage of learning from these lectures.
 
STUDENTS
Currently we have 1999 undergraduate students and 502 master’s degree students. SOE’s academic program emphasizes the right balance of theory and practice to give our students the ability to succeed. Students are encouraged to make assiduous efforts to study and try lots of different things, such as academic competitions, social service opportunities and sporting activities. So the students leave equipped with the tools for success in all kinds of fields.
SOE boasts an excellent job placement record. Our Undergraduate and master graduates are employed in governments, financial institutions, trading firms, multinational enterprises and high-tech industry. About 30% participate in graduate programs in domestic or overseas universities and research institutions.
 
INTERNATIONAL STUDY OPPORTUNITIES
Student Exchanges
SOE maintains close and friendly relationships with world-renowned universities and each year, dozens of undergraduate students go abroad as exchange students for a summer, semester, or whole academic year.
Study Abroad Degree Options
SOE cooperated with the University College Cork and the University College Dublin of Ireland, Northern Illinois University and University of Wisconsin-Parkside of the US and other Universities all over the world to establish SOE Study Abroad Degree Programs. Students from the SOE were offered the opportunities to experience an international study during their undergraduate studies, obtaining double degrees from BTBU and our overseas partners.
International Students
We give prominence to intercultural dimension to the study at SOE. Currently more and more international students have enrolled in short-term, semester, or year-long exchanges or degree programs taught in English at SOE.
