Good News! BTBU's U.S. News Ranking Reaches New Heights
On June 16, U.S. News & World Report officially released the 2026–2027 Global Best Universities rankings. BTBU, driven by sustained improvements in comprehensive research strength and disciplinary development, rose to global rank No. 734 — a jump of 99 spots from No. 833 in the 2025–2026 edition — and advanced to No. 103 among domestic universities, up 12 places from No. 115 the previous year.
Since first appearing on the U.S. News Global University rankings in 2021, BTBU has consistently achieved rapid annual progress. From global rank No. 1,327 and domestic rank No. 160 in 2023–2024, to No. 1,121 globally and No. 141 domestically in 2024–2025, and then to No. 833 globally and No. 115 domestically in 2025–2026, BTBU has realized steady breakthroughs across national, Asian and global rankings, with continuously growing international recognition and overall competitiveness.

This year's ranking employs 13 core evaluation metrics, covering research reputation, publication output, citation rates, highly cited papers, international collaboration and so on. BTBU achieved a global composite score of 42.9 according to the statistics. Among core research metrics, the proportion of highly cited papers ranked No. 302 globally, and the proportion of papers among the top 10% most cited ranked No. 126 globally — fully reflecting the ongoing optimization of research quality and the rising value of academic output.

In terms of disciplinary construction, BTBU had 14 disciplines ranked, with its advantageous fields continuing to lead globally. Food Science and Technology ranked No. 10 worldwide, maintaining its position in the global first tier; Agricultural Sciences ranked No. 14 globally, with core metrics including publication output, total citations, and number of highly cited papers all at world-leading levels. Polymer Science ranked No. 62 globally; Economics and Business, debuting on the list, ranked No. 100 worldwide; Biotechnology and Applied Microbiology ranked No. 226 globally; and Chemical Engineering, also a first-time entrant, ranked No. 277 globally. Disciplines such as Biology and Biochemistry, Physical Chemistry, Chemistry, Environmental/Ecology, Materials Science, and Engineering continued to see improved rankings, while Computer Science and Electrical and Electronic Engineering maintained steady development, reflecting an expanding disciplinary scope.
Behind these achievements lies the deep driving force of the BTBU's "Technology-Business Integration" development strategy. As a high-level research university in Beijing, BTBU enjoys a natural advantage in combining "technology" and "business." In the new era, the university has innovatively proposed the development philosophy of "Technology-Business Integration," guided by four core pillars — "integration, empowerment, cross-disciplinarity, and symbiosis" — to achieve comprehensive integration and unified development of technology and business. Under this philosophy, the university has systematically built a ternary interdisciplinary system of "Technology–Business–Data." BTBU has actively established interdisciplinary fields such as Food Economics, Digital Business, and Regulatory Science, continuously strengthening the radiating and leading role of its advantageous disciplines. Through "New Engineering" initiatives to enhance foundational engineering capabilities, "New Business" initiatives to sharpen core competitiveness in business, and "Digital Intelligence" empowerment to transform the development of economics and management disciplines, Data Science serves as the bridge connecting technology and business, fully leveraging its cross-cutting characteristics and driving progress in distinctive application areas such as Financial Technology and Digital Regulation.
In recent years, BTBU has focused on building "Double First-Class" disciplines, intensifying organized research, establishing high-level research platforms, attracting and cultivating top-tier talent, and deepening industry-education integration. Leveraging its distinctive strengths in Food Science, Cosmetic Science, Economics and Business, and Data Science, BTBU has strengthened collaborative innovation with enterprises, aligned supply with demand, and promoted the translation of research outcomes into practical applications. In June 2026, the university established the first Sci-Tech Business School among Beijing municipal universities, further integrating superior disciplinary resources, focusing on industrial needs, and creating a highland for technology-business talent cultivation — laying a solid foundation for continued leaps in comprehensive disciplinary strength.
This outstanding performance in the U.S. News 2026–2027 Global Rankings is a strong affirmation of BTBU's running level, research quality, and disciplinary strength. Looking ahead, BTBU will remain true to its founding mission, deepen its distinctive development path, continue to advance the coordinated progress of disciplinary construction, talent cultivation, and research innovation, and steadily enhance its running level and international influence as it moves confidently toward its goal of becoming a high-level research university with distinctive features.
